"Breslin, Hamill, McAlarry and now my friend Billy O'Connor. These are the Irish American authors from the streets of NYC. We always said “ He should write a book!” Well, now he’s written two. If you thought Bronx Bookie was great, read Da Mick a superb tale of love and sacrifice as only happens in the Big Apple told by one of its true sons( by way of Cork City, Ireland). Read this book!" -- Joe Sullivan, retired FDNY Captain
I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Billy is an excellent story teller.
I was born in the Bronx,in the neighborhood Billy writes about--Billy really captures the craziness of the
Era,and really brings home the rush of alcohol, gambling, drugs and one night stands, both free + paid for,and the price ultimately paid for living that lifestyle. I'm glad Billy made it out alive!
A GREAT READ!!!!!
I like to support all of my friends and family, as amazingly talented as they all are, but I won't back anything I don't truly believe in. Billy O'Connor is not only an amazing person, but an amazing talent. His comedy and writing are no BS yet contain his heart and soul in every word. Confessions of a Bronx Bookie, is a small, fast reading book that contains nearly an entire lifetime or two. Immediately you are pulled into his world and you walk in his shoes. You find yourself relating to, and even feeling for, rooting for this man, that on paper you may think you have nothing in common with but in the end shows you we all aren't so different. Billy O'Connor uses his talent for wit and bare bones truth to tell this story like no one else could. He has a rare gift for painting a picture with words and drawing you into his world like some of the greatest writers of our time. This is a great book. A must read. My only disappointment is that it had to come to an end. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to see what he writes next and I will be one of the first in line to get it.
It has its doleful and dark moments that made me feel like I was sitting in the passenger seat of a friend's car, cruising along life, meeting so many colorful characters, interesting experiences through history that made what America is today. Let Billy take you for a ride you will NOT be disappointed!
What a great read - one of those hidden gems that you never want to end. If you grew up in the 50's and 60's you will love the slice of life that this book provides. I hope there is another one in the computer.
An amazing story , of a Bronx boy, who loved life, and lived it, his way. It was a roller coaster ride through his not so perfect ,dad to day activities. It also tells a story of child, growing up , and returning to the Bronx .This is not Leave it to Beaver, or Brady Bunch , where problems are solved within a half hour show. This is real life. . No holding back.No candy coated B. S. ! A real Bronx tale .
Well, Billy, I'm very impressed! I just hope we don't have to wait another 60 years for you to live more life to write about!
A page turner, very well written. You not only bring us along for the ride, we feel your pain and get caught up in your mania.

You'll love the main character of this book, Connor Kelly, and at the same time, you'll want to smack him upside his head and tell him to get a clue! Best of all, at the end, you'll realize he's just human... I loved this book! It's a great, fast-paced read - as manic as Connor Kelly himself.
Get ready for one harrowing experience after another! And a trip down Memory Lane: Life as it was growing up in the 50's and 60's...Billy O'Connor captures the innocence of youth that transgresses into the over-the-top indulgences of youth in a way that will amaze even the most jaded! His raunchy yet touching re-telling of Connor Kelly's adventures will keep you turning page after page. You'll laugh at his mishaps, feel his fear , enjoy his triumphs and feel his pain at life's tragedies. Connor is the most likeable hero in a long time. Turning his life around, going back to college at age 60, becoming sober and an inspiration for all struggling with demons will inspire the reader as well. Thanks for a great read, Billy and can we look forward to a sequel?? My final thought on the last pages: "How can this man STILL be alive and walking this earth?!?!" Read it and found out! Best wishes to you on your future endeavors! Fan and Fellow Late Bloomer.
